Dandies Sweet Potato Hush Puppies


  • 3 Sweet Potatoes — Peeled and cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 1/4 cup vegan margarine (we like Earth Balance)
  • 1/4 tsp Ground Clove
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
  • A handful of Dandies Mini Marshmallows
  • 3 cups Sunflower Oil (for frying)


  • 1 1/2 cup Cornmeal
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp Smoked Paprika
  • 1 small onion- finely diced
  • 1 cup Almond Milk

Hush Puppies stuffed with mashed sweet potatoes and Dandies Mini Marshmallows and fried to crispy perfection. Serve this up as a side and have the raddest, most delicious Tofurky Day ever!



Preheat oven to 450 degrees. In a baking dish combine sweet potatoes, butter and spices. Roast in oven for about 30 minutes or until tender. Once done, transfer to a bowl and mash them up. In a separate bowl whisk together all batter ingredients. In a sauce pan heat up the oil to medium high. Scoop out a golf ball size of mashed sweet potatoes, insert 3 mini marshmallows and roll into a ball. Dip the ball into the batter and make sure it is completely covered. Fry until golden brown about 2–3 minutes. Remove using a slotted spoon and let excess oil drain on a plate with a paper towel. Repeat with the rest of of the potato mixture. Makes about 6–8 hush puppies. Enjoy!
